When you think of fair trade fashion, what comes to mind? Companies empowering and employing women in other countries with products mostly geared towards...women, right? Jewelry, fashion accessories, home goods, articles of clothing? Us too, since the majority of our products are also geared towards the female population.
Which is why when we learned about Lion's Thread we instantly fell in love with them. Their mission is the same as many other fair trade companies who employ and empower groups of women in other countries to help create a sustainable economy; but their target market is vastly different -- they are ALL about the men. Lion's Thread employs a group of 7 ladies in Uganda to sew all of the African patterned bowties and ties that they sell.
When we talked with Sydney Hulebak, one of the company's founders, about Lion's Thread's mission, she was so passionate about getting men involved in the movement to help women overseas. We love that their products are the perfect staple for the modern and dapper gentlemen's wardrobe, but the fabrics hail to the roots of the Uganda women who create them. Check out their website to learn more, and if your man is bold, let him pick out his favorite pattern!
